IDB and World Bank launch Amazonia Bond Issuance Guidelines, with support from the Green Bridge Facility

green crime goes global 3

Brazil and its neighboring Amazonian nations need a dedicated, credible way to channel private capital into sustainable development. The Green Bridge Facility (GBF) served as a knowledge partner of the IDB and World Bank during the development of the Amazonia Bond Issuance Guidelines, which provide a clear, impact-driven framework to enable bonds that support zero-deforestation, biodiversity, and community resilience across the Amazon region.

Key fact:  Existing green and social bond standards often fall short of capturing the Amazon’s unique social, ecological, and territorial dynamics.

Covering all eight Amazonian countries, the Guidelines establish clear eligibility criteria, use-of-proceeds definitions, impact indicators, and governance safeguards to ensure that capital raised through Amazonia Bonds delivers measurable, high-integrity benefits for people and nature.
