Brazil has made ambitious commitments: to restore 12 million hectares of native vegetation and connect 30% of the country’s territory through ecological corridors. More than a conservation strategy, these corridors combine conservation with economic activities that support biodiversity and offer tangible opportunities for a wide range of stakeholders. Rural landowners benefit from greater productivity through improved water availability and diversified production. Local communities benefit from income generation. Public authorities can strengthen territorial policies. Investors and financial institutions find favorable conditions for sustainable businesses that generate positive impacts for people and the environment.

The guide presents the Integrated Method for Ecological Connectivity and Territorial Opportunity and Risk Management, which combines knowledge of ecological connectivity with the Green Bridge Facility’s Know Your Territory, or KYT, approach. It provides a structured five stage pathway, from initial definitions through monitoring, for planning and implementing viable corridors. It also proposes economic activities that foster ecological connectivity and therefore contribute to achieving collective goals over time.

Its main innovation lies in integrating three dimensions that rarely work together: ecological science, territorial risk management, and adaptive governance. This combination transforms a corridor that is well designed on paper into an initiative that is ecologically effective, economically viable, and capable of enduring over time. By reducing uncertainty and identifying opportunities, it also makes conservation a more informed and secure investment decision.
